coming Sundays August 8, 15:
CORE MUSCLE ANATOMY
at the Kane School/Kinected Pilates Center
This course explores musculoskeletal anatomy emphasizing the trunk, hip, shoulder girdle, arm, and neck, and basic principles of kinesiology in these areas, as they relate to the teaching and practice of Pilates, yoga, and bodywork. Class is presented in a lecture-style format. In addition to the course workbooks and overheads, Kriota palpates and draws muscles, bones, and ligaments on a live model. As the model moves his/her body on equipment or on the mat, we have an opportunity to appreciate the anatomical model in a three dimensional form as we examine the way these muscles shorten, lengthen, and stabilize joints. Issues such as core stability, common tension patterns, and the body as a weight-bearing structure in gravity will be addressed and investigated. Students will also palpate the superficial skeletal features and muscles of the core for a deeper, hands-on understanding. Correct alignment and injury recovery are discussed.
